When I start to feel sleepy, I just remove the power cable and go to sleep. The laptop used to suspend once the power is removed. 12.1 does not seem to suspend when we remove the power cable after the lid is closed. It suspends fine when the power cable is removed and then when we close the lid. Then I upgraded to Factory with KDE Factory. After the upgrade, the KDE module for configuring the network manager has lost all connection settings (wlan, vpn, mobile broadband). Adding new connections works fine, but the old settings seem to be lost. In ~/.kde4/share/apps/networkmanagement/connections there are several files which seem to contain the old connection settings (and also a file with the new settings that I just configured again), but apparently the old settings are ignored for some reason. This is bad because in some cases it took me a while to figure out which settings I must use to get a working connection. In about 5 minute it is back with the second message needing root password Expected Results: It should do what ever it wants and then not come back. The second error message complains about network proxy. Checking the homepage for PackageKit it points out that it is a GNOME and gstreamer piece of stuff. Why is it in KDE4? I installed an acer one (atom, 1Gb ram) with kde. The first login went well, apart a display problem I solved changing the desktop kernel to the default one (see other bugreport if necessary) - probably not the cause. no problem for the first log. I then rebooted. Login in kde was extremely slow (more than 5 minutes), the KDE icon didn't show on the splash screen. top on a tty showed nepomuk activity. I changed I don't remember what on the install (repositories, probably) and rebooted. This time The login didn't go until the fourth icon on the splash screen. I rebooted and this time the third icon of the kde splash was blurred also. I decided to let it go as long as it would like and finally the login succeeded. Now it boots and log normally, no more slowness (I hope it's for good). I suspect nepomuk work. Anyway approx 15 minutes total work before givig access. No idea what log could help. The implementation looks rather broken/buggy. NM seems to require PK authentication for the wrong action and presents the wrong dialogs. When a system connection is created with the option to always prompt for the password I would not expect requiring root authentication from the user to actually enter it. Also, presenting the full connection edit dialog instead of just a password prompt is rather confusing. This about settings in the files /etc/sysconfig/network/ifsysctl and /etc/sysconfig/network/ifsysctl-<if>, where <if> is the name of an interface. I have a file /etc/sysconfig/network/ifsysctl containing one active line net.ipv6.conf.$SYSCTL_IF.use_tempaddr = 0 The file /etc/sysconfig/network/config contains at least the following lines: NETWORKMANAGER="yes" IFSYSCTL_NET-WORKMANAGER="yes" However eth0 still gets an IPv6 address with the lower 64 bits generated randomly, next to one that is derived from the MAC address, which should be the only one. This is after setting these parameters and doing a reboot. I only have one eth0 interface in this system. But this a preparation for having these settings in my laptop also for the wireless connection. On opensuse-factory there has been a discussion about being blocked when using these randomized IPv6 addresses, so I am looking for the settings to disable this randomized IPv6 address. The applet does not allow me to do that. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Set the network configuration to use NetworkManager 2. Create the file /etc/sysconfig/network/ifsysctl with above line 3. Add the specified line to /etc/sysconfig/network/config 4. reboot and watch the IPv6 addresses the interface gets. Actual Results: The interface has several IPv6 addresses which are generated randomly.
