I have recently made an updated of the display driver. -> ATI Catalyst 10.4 -> fglrx 8.723 KDE 4.4.2 from this repo: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Desktop/openS… When I enable Compositing in KDE and start an OpenGL game. I can play the game in good quality. As soon as I finish the game, I return to KDE. KDE apparently tries to restore the screen resolution and even tries to get the control of the Compositing. Then I have got black screen. I can only disable Compositing by ALT + SHIFT + F12 and get back to the desktop. When I enable Compositing again, I have got a black screen again. I can only logout from KDE and afterwards login, then KDE can enable Compositing again. Why can not KDE 4.4.2 force to restore the screen with Compositing in OpenGL mode? Can we solve this issue? When I disable Compositing before I start a OpenGL game, then I can return to KDE and activate Compositing without trouble again. For example, OpenGL games perfectly works with a different desktop environment LXDE. I think, LXDE has not a Compositing, that would collide with OpenGL. Workaround: - Disable Compositing in KDE 4.4.2 - Start a OpenGL game of your choice - When you exit the game, you can start Compositing in KDE again. Now it uses the Documents path. This however makes it impossible to have Documents as an mount point and if on a remote system ALL are working on the remote system. It seems to work with 512 MB as well, but is very slow. During KDE startup, the "Starting Akonadi Server" progress bar hangs (as well as the mouse cursor) for quite some time. This may confuse users into thinking that the system is hung up (it managed to fool me). It also take a while to react to mouse click events, which may lead the users to clicking on links and icons multiple times (thus further prolonging the startup of applications). In each, I have working audio with KDE 4.3. In each, the moment I upgrade to KDE 4.4, Phonon refuses to initialize my on-board sound. I've tried both Xine and Gstreamer back ends. In each instance, I can get audio working from the command line with alsa speaker tests, and Yast speaker tests. But Phonon is not working. I've tried troubleshooting this for about two weeks, soliciting help in the openSUSE forums, #kde and #opensuse irc channels. No suggestion from anyone could get Phonon working. I've simply had to roll back to KDE 4.3 packages. For a specific instance here, on this particular laptop, the sound is running on a nVidia Corporation MCP67 High Definition Audio chipset with the snd_hda_intel driver and a 2.6.31 kernel. I did try a 2.6.33 kernel with the openSUSE 11.3 packages. I have also opened a bug with KDE. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=229885 Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install KDE 4.4 packages on openSUSE 11.2 or 11.3 2. Try to play any sound, including startup sound 3. Watching Phonon fail to initialize Actual Results: Phonon always fails to initialize on all three computers I've tested (different sound chipsets) on x86 and x86_64, with both Gstreamer and Xine backends tested. (Application Manuals and UNIX manual pages). htdig seem to work correctly (search index building works). But I have addtional documentation installed e.g. susehelp or selfhtml which just does'nt apear in the scope area and therefore is not indexed and not searchable in kde helpcenter. I already uninstalled and re-installed htdig. I checked the ~/.kde4/share/apps/khelpcenter/index here all the books I installed are listed (e.g. selfhtml) I have created a new test user. then directly went to the helpcenter. In scope there was one entry the unix manuals, then after building the index there was the second entry. Application manuals. I've seen some warnings (line 6) and errors (line 151, 233, 358) in the output but I don't know if they are related to the problem I face. Since in addtion to my PC I have an laptop and a spare hdd for it I did a netinstall of suse 11.1 with a freshly downloaded iso from opensuse and checked the scope. There was only unix manuals in it. Then I installed the susehelp packages. then ran susehelp again tried to build the index on application manuals, as expected the it compained about missing htdig, which I installed. Then I could succsessfuly create the index for the applications manuals. After that the entry application manual was listed in scope so again I only had a total of two entries in the scope list. Then I added the kde factory repositories and did a "zypper dup" to 4.3. No change still only two entries. So only having two entries seems to be default behavoir for opensuse 11.1 with kde 4.x. under http://img2.myimg.de/scopekhelpcenter3510ce506.png you will find a scope view of kde 3.5.x and under http://img2.myimg.de/khelpcenter43106d5b.png of my kde 4.3.x As you can see there are much more entries in the kde 3.5 version. Hence I think this is not the source of the problem. I got the same problem with firefox as well as with rekonq. As far as i know the same problem persist with both 32bit and the square version of flash plug-in. The solution to this problem was to disable hardware acceleration in the flash player plug-in options. I'm using kde 4.6.0 on a desktop pc with an ati hd 4850 and xorg-x11-driver-video-radeonhd driver as yast reports (never installed the "close" driver in this version). IIRC most of the crashes happened after reporting a bug or adding a comment to bugzilla.novell.com. (Fortunately Konqueror at least crashed late enough so that bugzilla receives the bugreports.) Everything was OK, BUT this : 1) yast2-samba-server doesn't let you create a Samba user accout. Not really bad, but it does configure the Samba server in "USER" security mode instead of "SHARE". So, when you want to access the share ou created, you can't. 2) The other issue with yast2-samba-server is that it won't let you enable the guest access to the share you've just created with it The consequence : the client is asked for a login/password and even if you enter root as username and the root password, you CANNOT login, it asks it to the client again and again, even if you don't enter any login or nor password. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.configure a Samba share using yast2-samba-server 2.try to connect to it from another Samba client enabled computer Actual Results: you can't connect to your Samba share from openSUSE 11.4 Expected Results: Access to my Samba share without login/password, or to be allowed to add a Samba account from the Yast2 Samba server configuration tool. Solution : enable xinetd + swat with Yast2, then continue the configuration of the Samba server from there.
