Sorry, but this is definitely a wrong assumption.

We cannot support the proprietary driver by NVIDIA in case you use it.

Summary: KDE doesn't update screen size on xrandr --fb
Classification: openSUSE
Product: openSUSE 11.3
Version: Milestone 6
Platform: i386
OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3
Status: NEW
Severity: Normal
Priority: P5 - None
Component: KDE4 Workspace
AssignedTo: kde-maintainers(a)suse.de
ReportedBy: atilinuxnovellbugs(a)ati.com
QAContact: qa(a)suse.de
Found By: ---

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.2.3)
Gecko/20100423 Ubuntu/10.04 (lucid) Firefox/3.6.3
Hardware: AMD Athlon 64 X2, Radeon HD 4650 (RV730)
Configuration: no xorg.conf, using RADEON driver
When changing the FB size using xrandr --fb or --panning, the KDE workspace
size doesn't change. It appears as if a mode change is required for KDE to get
notified of a FB size change. This doesn't happen in GNOME.
Problem was observed on multiple systems using the Radeon and fglrx drivers.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
Steps to reproduce:
- in KDE 4 open a terminal window
- enter command "xrandr --fb <size>" where <size> is bigger than the current
Alternative steps to reproduce:
- in KDE 4 open a terminal window
- enter command "xrandr --output <output> --panning <size>" where <output> is a
connected monitor and <size> is bigger than the monitor's current mode
Actual Results:
- workspace is not resized
- if panning, screen is black beyond the original workspace size
- if desktop effects are enabled, the contents of terminal window stop updating
Expected Results:
- workspace is resized to match the new FB size or panning region
The problem was observed on openSUSE 11.3 and also 11.2.

OK, I updated the radeonhd driver (everything else was shown as up to date),
there is still an immedate crash when hovering over the reference.
For comparison I tested OO.org on my other machine with an NVidia card: On
Windows everything is shown correctly, on XFCE longer previews (from 4 lines
on) are displayed as withe fields, but no crash.
I'd to reproduce the error with another word processor, but Abiword doesn't
show previews, and Koffice2 has never heard of footnotes at all...

Could you update to X packages in X11:Xorg buildservice repo so I can see where
the crash happens?
