So: zypper ar http://download.opensuse.org/factory/repo/oss/ factory-oss zypper ref -r factory-oss zypper in -r factory-oss yast2 BINGO! Problem solved. Yast SW Management now seems to be OK. At this point, it looks for partitions but find no disk 5) alt+f3, mount all xvd* virtual partitions under /mnt 6) go back to gui, alt+f7, and just press "Next" even without partitions listed or selected on screen After this, installation goes without problems.
