Before the update of packages "hal", "powersave", "dbus", I was able to change the CPUfreq on this laptop via command line tool "powersave" or the KPowerSave applet. After the update it's no longer to have a reduced CPU frequency on the same machine. The bad news is, that the machine needs to run the cooling fan of the CPU all the time in full mode, with disadvantage of loudness and hot temperatures on my knees. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install openSUSE-11.0 with installation media: see that changing CPUfreq works 2. Install updates of packages "hal", "powersave", "dbus", after March, 4th powersave -A Actual Results: liblazy (liblazy_dbus_send_method_call:97): Received error reply: Method "SetCPUFreqGovernor" with signature "s" on interface "org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.CPUFreq" doesn't exist liblazy (liblazy_dbus_send_method_call:97): Received error reply: Method "SetCPUFreqGovernor" with signature "s" on interface "org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.CPUFreq" doesn't exist Could not set CPUFreq policy to dynamic. Which should be 1280x800 at 60 Hz. After processing the available updates, it gets even worse: I end up with a command line interface. Only booting failsafe gets me into 800x600 again. This problem is new in openSUSE 11.1. I had no such problem with 10.3 and 11.0. These previous versions detected my video hardware properly and allowed me to set the resolution correctly after installation, i.e. at 1280x800. These are the hardware specifications of my laptop: Sony Vaio VGN-BX296VP Pentium M 1,6 Ghz 1 Gb RAM Intel 915 chipset (using 256 MB shared memory) 15,4 inch screen SaX2 log says this: http://sites.google.com/site/computertip/saxlog Copying the xorg.conf of 11.0 into 11.1 did not help. This was zypper being run out of cron, apparently, for an automatic update. This is a very serious issue! I have had to disable automatic updates until this is fixed. On plugging any sort of USB mass storage in (I've tried two external HDs, an SD card in reader, and a USB flash keychain), the expected popup appears, but when one picks "open in new window", a konqueror window pops up with a dialog over it reading: org.freedesktop.hal.storage.mount-removable auth_admin_keep_always <-- (action, result) This seems similar to bug #416956, but altering /usr/share/PolicyKit/policy/org.freedesktop.hal.storage.policy has no effect, so it's probably actually a different bug.
