This can very easily be seen. On a machine with wireless networking, disable wireless. iwconfig wlan0 wlan0 IEEE 802.11abgn ESSID:"\xC9*\xD9\x15\x01C/\xEE\x15\x02\x87a|\x13b\x9Ei\xFCr\x81\xCDqe\xA6>\xABI\xCFqK\xCE:" ... I have two problems: 1. Wireless is always ON on boot 2. Wireless LED always ON no matter what wireless radio does I can use Fn-F2 to disable the radio, but the LED always stays ON. BUT, if I suspend the laptop to RAM/HDD, bring it back out of suspend and then press Fn-F2 ON/OFF, the LED follows the radio, that is it switches ON/OFF... until it reboots. - Wi-fi is Intel Wireless WiFi Link 5100 ABGN PCI - Bluetooth is Broadcom BT-253 USB. - Wifi driver is ipw-firmware-8-109.2 - Can't find a bluetooth driver/firmware - Running KDE-4.3 & network controlled with NetworkManager I also have a Dell laptop which also comes with Fn-F2 radio switch function, same as my Asus laptop. But the radio stays OFF in Dell on boot and LED works properly but radio is always ON in Asus on boot and LED always stays ON (unless after suspend). But if they work as they should in one laptop and not in the other, this means Linux can do this but some config has to be changed on Asus. There's gotta be something in the boot config somewhere, I just don't know where to look. Or maybe the asus_laptop module has to be fixed. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. I'm using the "nv" X11 driver right now, with 11.1 I was using binary-only "nvidia" driver. It has a internal qualcomm 9212 modem that has the firmware loaded and is recognized by qcserial with a /dev/ttyUSB0 created. I have gone into NetworkManager >Manage Connections and add a AT&T mobile broadband connection. I am unable to use it. It doesn't look like momdemmanager/networkmanager recognizes my /dev/ttyUSB0 as a mobile broadband device. I then tried to install a newer version of modemmanager from the gnome factory but it still wouldn't recognize the /dev/ttyUSB0 as a mobile broadband device. fyi-The versions installed with openSUSE 11.2 RC1 will recognize it. What does work on 11.1 is to configure wvdial and execute it from a shell prompt as root. It get's connected with an IPaddress, default route and DNS servers. At least that's what is outputted to the screen by wvdial. At the end it states that no name servers are found in the /etc/resolve.conf file. I am assuming that is because it is managed by networkmanager. If I create a new resolve.conf with a name server in it and copy it to the /etc directory I am able to connect to the internet. So their are two problems. 1. Modemmanager/NetworkManager don't see my device as a mobile broadband and 2. wvdial doesn't add resolvers to the /etc/resolv.conf or networkmanager. More concerned about the 1st issue. Hit Fn+F12 Actual Results: Nothing happens Expected Results: Thinkpad suspends to RAM / hibenates / S2Disk - Vanilla Installation of openSUSE 11.2 i586 on a Lenovo Thinkpad R500 with GNOME desktop - Fn+F4 does well a suspend to RAM (S2RAM / standby) - S2RAM and S2Disk both work well from GNOME Desktop Power-Off-Menus. - Fn-F5 powers off WLAN radio - Installation is also affected by #540482 "ConsoleKit: restart fails to restart computer" - Please tell me which logs/traces/etc are interesting for you.
