You have to switch back to the workspace where the window resides to view it. PLATFORM/CONFIGURATION: opensuse 11.2 32 bit (with updates as of Dec 10, 2009) GNOME desktop environment dual displays REPRO: 1. Setup dual displays (I am using an nvidia driver with Xinerama). 2. Open a chat/IM program that uses window notification (Pidgin or Groupwise Messenger. Pidgin uses the Message Notification plugin with "set window manager URGENT" checked). 3. Open a conversation on workspace 1 4. Switch to workspace 2 5. When the open conversation receives a new message, it flashes in the Window List 6. Click the application in the window list. RESULTS: I tested this using a single display (on a laptop). When I click the application, it takes me back to workspace 1 so I can view the message. When I do this same thing in my dual display setup, nothing happens when I click the application in the window list. EXPECTED RESULTS: It should take me to the desktop where the notified window resides. Would you like it to run?" This problem is compounded by the fact that on some computers it is impossible to lower the volume of the PC speaker to an acceptable level. On my system, even at its lowest setting, it literally hurts my ears when the PC speaker beeps through my headphones. Is there not some way of automatically configuring GNOME/GTK+ to use the KDE system notification for its system bell? Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Load a GTK+ app, such as XEmacs. 2. Do something to cause a system bell, such as trying to scroll up past the beginning of the buffer in XEmacs. Actual Results: 3. Annoying, ear-splittingly loud noise emanates from the PC speaker channel. Expected Results: 3. This, as well as the "drive" tab, are missing in Nautilus in OpenSuse 11.2. Being able to determine the mount name for removable storage is important for things like command line scripts which do backup, etc. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. right click on a mounted USB drive and select "properties" 2. Dialog does not contain the "drive" and "mount" tabs required to set the volume name. 3. Actual Results: Lots of window flicker, numerous running apps are minimized as metacity crashes and is automatically restarted. I know it's restarted as the pid from 'ps aux' is different. Before the search: jon 15436 1.1 0.4 346764 15240 ? Sl 10:15 0:00 /usr/bin/metacity After the search: jon 15640 0.3 0.5 347040 15616 ? Sl 10:23 0:00 /usr/bin/metacity Note that the pid is different. Expected Results: Obviously, metacity shouldn't crash, there shouldn't be tons of window flicker, and metacity's pid should remain the same. This was originally filed against Chrome, at: http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=29723 I didn't realize until recently that the actual issue was in metacity (though Chrome makes the repro very easy). Based on the comments there, it also appears to be hardware-related, as it only happens to me, but not for others running the nVidia proprietary or Intel drivers. I'm running this on a Lenovo T60p laptop, 2.33GHz Core2 Duo, 64-bit. Video driver (from /sbin/lspci): 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc M56GL [Mobility FireGL V5250] I'm running the openSUSE-provided (FOSS) ATI drivers, NOT the binary proprietary drivers. (Severity note: it's arguably Critical, as metacity is crashing, but since it auto-restarts I don't think it's that Critical. It should start a more suitable program like okular. Gnome takes its info from /usr/share/applications/defaults.list which is a symlink to /var/cache/gio-2.0/defaults.list. This file is created / updated from /sbin/conf.d/SuSEconfig.glib2. I have found SuSEconfig.glib2 ignores desktop-files belonging to KDE. So I have modified a few lines in this scipt. In order to set okular as preferred application some additional lines in /etc/gnome_defaults.conf are neccesary. See attached patch file. After applying the patch and rerun SuSEconfig.glib2 Gnome shows the expected default app: ~> gnomevfs-info Test.pdf Name : Test.pdf Type : Regular MIME type : application/pdf Default app : kde4-okularApplication_pdf.desktop .. I accept. It says the page is http://crash.gnome.org/report/index/3d8163a0-e5e5-11de-a934-0007e9333148?da…. That page always gives an error. However, bugbuddy pops up again. I close it, it pops up again, and again, and again. it is unkillable. I had to rename the executable to kill it: mv /usr/bin/bug-buddy /usr/bin/bug-buddy-no Log out and in does nothing, I'll have to reboot.
