One suggestion to get rid of the beep is to remove the 'pcspkr' kernel module. However this module is compiled into the SUSE kernels, so it cannot be removed. Other suggested workarounds are: - add 'set bell-style none' to /etc/inputrc - add 'setterm -blength 0' to /etc/profile.local - xset b off None of these are very user friendly. I press mute with audio playing - the sound mutes & a nice overlay pops up with a mute icon. I press un-mute: the overlay pops up without the mute symbol. Sadly however I hear no audio ;-) I press volume up (or down) and I get audio again.
