NTP was one of its requirements that YaST tried to install. The installation failed with following message: ntp-4.2.4p4-44.1.x86_64.rpm install failed rpm output: error: unpacking of archive failed on file /var/run/ntp: cpio: rename failed - Is a directory Diagnostics: ------------ /var/run/ntp already exists as a directory. 'rpm -q -f /var/run/ntp' says that it is not owned by any package. Therefore the defect mail is stuck on top of the waiting mail stack. The cron job with fetchmail fails on ALL following tries until the defect mail is cleared manually. Possible denial-of-service. The 2nd mail file (newsletter) is saved and can be provided. As they contain confident mail and server data it is available only on request. And I just installed the latest fetchmail-6.3.8-86.x86_64.rpm 14-Jan-2008 16:25 from the opensuse 11.0alpha which still fails on the same mail. Used that conn for a few days, then tried out umtsmon. Issues: - Had to run umtsmon as root, otherwise it would not find the UMTS card ("no UMTS device found..."). Doing so is a bit uncomfortably, but works, dialup still ok, connection working nice! - At one point I tried out umtsmon's "connect" menu item instead of using NM, though. It did some setup-ish things (progressbar suggested so, at least...) and since then, neither umtsmon nor NM can connect anymore ;-( /var/log/messages says the connection gets established but immediately after, pppd reports the modem to disconnect again. The linuxtv.org wiki suggests the Hauupauge WinTV HVR-3000 may be possible to get working under openSUSE if one uses mercurial to apply the latest patch to v4l-dvb. http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Hauppauge_WinTV-HVR-3000 openSUSE-10.3 does not provide v4l-dvb (although it does provide a v4l-conf and v4l-toos and dvb, neither of which support the Hauupauge WinTV HVR-3000). After installation of mercurial, an effort was made to install the v4l-dvb driver for the Hauupauge WinTV HVR-3000 (see thread below) but thus far nominal performance has not yet been possible with this driver with the openSUSE-10.3 2.6.22 kernel. There is the possibility that that the patch for this Hauupauge WinTV HVR-3000 requires the 2.6.24 linux kernel (while openSUSE-10.3 comes with a 2.6.22 linux kernel) as the site below provides the v4l-dvb patches (and specifically notes the 2.6.24 kernel): http://dev.kewl.org/hauppauge/ It is also believed that this problem may be applicable to openSUSE-11.0, with a "patched" v4l-dvb opensource driver being required to support the Hauppage Hvr 3000 TV card. It is speculated that the openSUSE v4l-dvb may not have the necessary patch.
