Stefan, I'm refering not to firefox, but to other Java apps. I'm not sure if it
affects all of them, but NetBeans 6.0m9 doesn't start without this workaround.

Make sure you've this line in /usr/lib/firefox/firefox.sh.
export LIBXCB_ALLOW_SLOPPY_LOCK=1
Otherwise your MozillaFirefox package is not up-to-date. For other Java apps
this issue has been 'fixed' in
/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.6.0.u1-sun-1.6.0.u1/jre/bin/java

I get this error with java-1_6_0-sun-1.6.0.u1-5
The workaround with LIBXCB_ALLOW_SLOPPY_LOCK=1 works here

Summary: openSUSE 10.2 will not install install properly on an
older Vaio laptop
Product: openSUSE 10.2
Version: Final
Platform: Other
URL: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-
2.6.20/+bug/114682
OS/Version: openSUSE 10.2
Status: NEW
Severity: Blocker
Priority: P5 - None
Component: Installation
AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening(a)forge.provo.novell.com
ReportedBy: anavi(a)earthling.net
QAContact: jsrain(a)novell.com
Its a PCG-954A
Pentium 3 processor. 695.6 MHz
254 megs of ram
chipset: intel i815
only the "safe settings" install will install at all.
It issues a text based installer, but does not set up a root username and
password on the end of the install, so login in the initial boot is impossible.
I am using the correct x86 install version.
I have installed xp Service pack 2 and which works fine if that helps.
A similar problem comes up with Zenwalk 4.6.1 and Ubuntu 7.04 Although with
these distros the problem is worse, and they won't install at all.
this may be a clue if this helps:
in a standard install attempt,
it loaded to the step of "SETTING UP STANDARD PCI RESOURCES" where it froze.
It was issued with windows ME
In an attempt to not reinvent the wheel, since I reported this to the ubuntu
team, and it has since been confirmed as an ubuntu kernel bug, I will provide a
link here so that clues, code and research may be shared into what seems to be
a common problem. A fix for one may fix them all.
