However, it only appears to set it for the input side. Compare the straces of these: find $HOME | strace -o trace1 dd bs=32k of=/dev/null find $HOME | strace -o trace2 dd obs=32k of=/dev/null find $HOME | strace -o trace3 dd ibs=4k obs=32k of=/dev/null and you can clearly see that in the first case, dd is *not* writing in 32KB chunks. Only in the latter two does this appear to work, when obs is specified specifically. This is a big deal because some devices (tape drives, etc...) *require* a certain block size to be used. Why is package libpcap 0.94 contains library 0.93 !?! openSUSE 10.2 contains package called "libpcap-0.9.4-30" but internally it has a library of a previous version ! "/usr/lib/libpcap.so.0.9.3" !!! Because of this some third-party programs refuse to run ! Googling revealed that the only similar crash reported with VNC can be caused by running "Eclipse" on Xvnc. How to reproduce: Print a 3 Megapixel photo with digikam (kipi print wizard). Then the CPU is at 100% for several minutes, running ghostscript (gs) before the printer starts to print. Under Suse 9.1, ghostscript runs for about a second, then the printer starts. This is probably a performance problem in the printing system as printing a 5000x7000 pixel image under gimp takes the same long time. Print driver is hpijs, but it takes as long with other print drivers. Does anyone have noticed this problem? What is the reason that ghostscript takes much longer than before to process pictures?
