(I maintain the spec file because I want to keep the settings from one install to the next, I'm doing modifications; I could delete it, but then it will not keep track of release number and such). I was intrigued because it seemed to behave different than what I remembered from 10.1 (my resume size increased to half a meg from well under 100KiB). The PDF format can embed font definitions in the PDF file, but supposedly it doesn't embed some fonts it knows about, like "Times-Roman", saving considerable space. This was not happening. I have discovered that 10.1 and 10.2 handle this quite differently, and I believe it is a bug. I have done tests using OOo-writer in both SuSE 10.1 and 10.2, using three fonts: 1) The printer font "Times" (you need to select options/ writer/ compatibility "use printer metrics" to make this font appear). Supposedly, this font should never be embedded into the PDF file. 2) Truetype "Nimbus Roman No9 L", a free Times font, and 3) Truetype "Times New Roman", from Microsoft. First I export to PDF from inside the OOo writer, then I print to postscript, finally I convert this .ps to PDF using "ps2pdf14 test.ps", and compare. The numbers in the table are the filesizes in bytes. I get the font info from the command "pdffonts test.pdf" (the filesize corroborating this). I always use the same "test.odt" file for each test, changing only the font used in the text (same font for the whole file, but one single letter bigger point size). But in 10.2 OOo always embeds the three fonts. "Times" is embedded as "NimbusRomNo9L-Regular", which I consider a BUG. It is curious to note that OOo embeds "Times New Roman" when exporting, but the info is not included into the .ps file, thus resulting in "ps2pdf test.ps" not embedding the font - this is peculiar. Could be a bug or a feature. It is also interesting to notice that OOo always embeds "NimbusRomNo9L-Regular" twice, resulting a pdf ten times bigger than the one generated through command line ps2pdf14. Plus, in 10.2 I haven't found any font from the times family that OOo doesn't embeds. Note: I haven't tested the rest of the (4?) family fonts that acroread doesn't need embedded, but my guess is that the problem is the same; specifically, I suspect that Helvetica is affected, too. -- Notes. 1) Used OOo versions: - In 10.1, the default YOU updated version. - In 10.2, the one from your ftp project tree (OpenOffice_org-2.1-1.7.i586.rpm), but the default version also had this behavior while I had it installed. I fact, I'm trying the Project tree precisely to find out if this particular problem dissapeared. Waiting impaciently for 2.2, too. 2) The Test.odt file is available if you want it. Issuing the s2ram command line works fine as far as a single suspsend/resume. The first suspsend often works as it should, but subsequent suspends without a reboot in between will suspsend correctly, then resume, but then immediately trigger a second suspend. It will then resume correctly from the second suspend. To debug, I hacked up the PM scripts a bit so that the /var/log/pm-suspend.log is appended to on every suspend rater than deleted and started a new each time. Then by adding debug statements to the /etc/pm/functions scripts, I was able to ascertain that the /etc/pm/functions function pm_main was being called twice. I added echo statements to the begining of pm_main right after the exec call that redirects to the log file to state when suspend began. I also added statemtns before every major step and one at the very end before the exit to indicate completley done. In the log, I see two sequential calls to pm_main. I'm not sure whats calling pm_main, so I couldnt debug further. For now, I've hacked it such that it will only allow 1 suspend per minute, but this is hardly ideal. Here are the levels (latest from suse updates): powersave-0.15.11-0.2 pm-utils-0.20.0.20061114-5.2 suspend-0.50-6 dbus-1-1.0.0-7 hal-0.5.8_git20061106-31.1 kernel: 2.6.18.8-0.1-default s2ram -n : Machine is unknown.
