https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=219945 Summary: It's possible to kill sw_single leaving it as a stale process, locking zypp forever Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Beta 2 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: sh(a)novell.com ReportedBy: wstephenson(a)novell.com QAContact: jsrain(a)novell.com This is a bug which a stupid impatient user would see: 1) Start sw_single 2) Decide you wanted inst_source instead and click Abort at bottom of the window ASAP. 3) You get a strange error message "could not access installation media 20062032-134656 CD1" as a result of clicking Abort - bug? 4) Click abort on that and every other error message that comes up 5) I get another error message "There was an error in installation source initialization. http://foo/bar: Cannot create the installation source. OK that. 6) Now sw_single is busy (y2log: Parsing filelist from ..../filelists.xml.gz ) but no UI feedback is given. Duncan says a callback is not used at this point that should be. This seems to continue indefinitely (BUG). 7) Get frustrated and ctrl-alt-esc sw_single's window - which closes. 8) Now both yast2 sw_single and sw_single qt are stale, state S and Sl respectively (BUG). As a result the zypp db has a valid lock on it as the process is still there, and any other package operations are locked, so the naive user has to reboot. All other WLANs works fine. Also if up works at the WLAN of the HAW-Hamburg fine. It seams the problem is at the ip configuration via DHCP. Latetly, I run in a case where I was just missing a feature: - Basic setup of WLAN Interface is set to DHCP (as most of the time I'm in a DHCP provided environment) - At one moment, I had to connect to another WLAN, without DHCP. I had to enter a IP Address manually (happens sometimes). BUT here comes the glitch: - I would either have to change this via YaST2, to set the configuration on STATIC, or - I have to associate everything manually using iwconfig, ip addr add, route and nameservers. The latter case worked more or less ok, BUT NetworkManager does not get the idea that I just connected to a WLAN and thus all application relying on it see the network as being disconnected (firefox, zmd and so on) So: the FeatureRequest would be: - When choosing to connect to a new WLAN, I would like to have the option to use DHCP or Static addressing, thus obsoleteing the settings made by yast (which are to static for a wlan usage). In plus, most might have the issue the other way round: having static IP in the office and as soon as they go out, they need it on DHCP. Thus binding dhcp/static to the network essid seems logica. This is already handled in a similar way with the YaST installer, and of course I can directly use rpm, but then it won't be able to solve dependencies. If it's on a HTTP/FTP site, then it should download the RPM, then try to solve dependencies and install it. The card seems well detected and all components needed to run the card are loaded. This is a fresh RC1 install. However, upon bootup, the wifi link is not active and NM does not see the card. The little wifi led is off. I have to modprobe -r ipw3945 and modprobe ipw3945 to have it seen by NM, and the wifi led is then on too. It then prompts me for the WEP key, and tries to connect, but fails. I tried with both Shared and Open mode. I couldn't make it work with the traditional method either. This is the same for some other gtk/gnome apps too. When I start gnome-theme-manager before starting evolution once, all icons are displayed again, but the themes of all gtk applications are suddenly a horrible mix of the qt theme and the set gtk theme. The fonts are those of the gtk theme, as well as sometimes colors. Also already started programs are sometimes affected by this, e.g. gkrellm starts getting different fonts. Worse, it appears that then new started kde applications sometimes get the other font(s) too. I ran software manager from the Yast2 suite, but all the servers I have on the list were unavailable. So one after another there were reports about this. It was obvious I wanted to abort this process (since I had no sense in such situation) but: 1) popup dialogs (which displays info about connecting to each server) don't have "cancel" buttons 2) The main app has "abort" button but it does not work So how is the user supposed to abort it?
