Even with keyboard autorepeat turned off in KDE, I was seeing massive auto-repeat in Vmware virtual machines. To the point of being unusable. By watching top, I found that the repeats happened in conjunction with vmware or vmware-vmx being migrated to the opposite processor. I found that by restraining vmware and its children to one processor solved the problem completely in Vmware: taskset 0x00000001 /usr/bin/vmware I wonder if the duplication in KDE occurs in conjunction with one or more processes migrating from one cpu to the other? Looking at the existing scripts on 10.0, it seems that none of them declare "select_language". I upgraded the ncurses libraries on that box to my current version, and running the normal language selection dialog with yast doesn't show any problem (using uxterm). I used the first 200k file names of find output in updatedb to sort or just run "wc" and get a horrible picture about the performace with LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8 : sort wc de_DE.UTF-8 77.86 2.42 de_DE 1.88 0.29 I understand that updatedb from cron will run with LC_ALL=POSIX but users will use such tools like sort or wc and there performance sucks for german locale !!
