Uninstalled these rpms ati-fglrx-kmp-smp-8.26.18_2.6.16.21_0.8-2 x11-video-fglrx-8.26.18-2 Rerun Sax2, obtained a new xorg.conf without fglrx module. Now all is OK. I think Sax failed to recognize the card and selected fglrx in some way if installed. (It spit back the word "true". However something you said "The problem is caused whenever , from the view of the Xorg process, the system time goes backwards." piqued my interest and tried to get the machine loaded up a bit (which is hard, because I don't have a lot on it till I get this problem solved) innn order to ggggeeeeet the xorg process bouncing frommm cpu to cpu. (drat, there it goes again) Then I looked up the pid of X and issued this command in a shell as root: taskset -p 0x00000002 3565 (3565 is X pid) That stopped all unwanted key repeats. Just to be cautious, I switched it back to 0x00000003 and so on back and forth a few times. In each case, I saw NO DUPLICATION while X was limited to a single cpu, and a re-occurance of duplication as soon as I set the process free to run on any CPU. While this is not an ideal way to operate, its provides one possible workaround. I can load all the sites of Gmail, Google or Yahoo on Konqueror. However these sites do not load in any of the other browsers mentioned above. My firefall is turned off and I am able to ping these sites. No extensions are installed in Firefox. I am also unable to connect thro Gaim. I do not get any error messages except for a time out message after a long time. This problem was not present when I initially installed Suse 10.1. Each time I boot from the cd both the graphical and text mode installs fail, reguardless of kernel option quick settings. I've booted the system off a knoppix dvd and performed all the partitioning ahead of time to verify that the drives are all working properly. I've also tried using the install dvd for Suse 10.1 and it has the same problem. I've waited up to 45 minutes before doing a hard reboot which results in a fresh install procedure. If using the default time zone setting during install, then changing the zone using YaST the same blank (black) screen results. After a hard reboot, the OS reports a failed installation restarting the install midstream. However, when complete, the time zone is correct. This has occurred in two hardware configurations. ps: I didn't see a convenient way to attach the syslog. I don't say that it is not triggered by a KDE environment, I only say that it can not be KDE's fault, as it doesn't do anything with keyboard repeat.
