Since a sysadmin when installing the fuse package, would probably expect that this by itself will enable users to use fuse File systems (such as sshfs). Thats the horizontal scrolling, which makes for example web browsing almost impossible. Don't know if someone actually like this feature, but it really should be disabled in the default installation. Why is it so annoying? The thing is that if one surfs the web (with firefox) and uses the touchpad, synaptics and its horizontal scrolling feature kicks in and activates the back/forward-function. All you need to do is move the cursor around and the web browser starts to act strangely So the horizontal sidescroll makes you go back and forward in your page history and it doesn't feel like normal behaviour . Operation is almost random, it happens really easily. Sax2 doesn't have an option to change the way the driver works. One has to either install a unofficial Ksynaptics rpm, which atleast in SLED crashed the whole X or edit xorg.conf. Not only should this be fixed asap, but including ksynaptics or similar in-house configuration tool should be pondered on.. STEPS 1) booting installation from grub 2) choosing partition (for example /dev/hda3) 3) writing installation folder (for exanmple suse/) 4) begining installation steps - when in Advanced Partitioning I will give installation partition "/dev/hda3" a mount point (any, for example /media/hda3) and then clik "Begin Installaion" the proces just stops becouse the program cant mount already mounted partition !!! To solve this problem SUSE shuld not mount any partiotions at the begninig of the installation process - only that is used for a system ! The installator should mount other partitions when suse reboots (after all packages are installed)!!! Then it wants you to press a button locally to proceed in text mode however its not possible then to go on over a serial console. It should switch automatically to textmode. Since after having installed openSUSE 10.2 I still was presented with the same old SUSE 10.1 installed grub, I decided to try to repair the bootloader. I booted from CD1 of openSUSE 10.2, and proceeded to "Repair Installed System". However, even selecting "Propose New Configuraton", it only appeared openSUSE 10.2 to be added to the GRUB, no line for SUSE 10.1. Since I am not a grub expert, it was clear that I couldn't fix it easily. I then decided to boot openSUE 10.2, open YAST and slecet "Install Bootloader". I was suprised, because selecting "Propose New Configuration" this time gave me a list including openSUSE 10.2 and SUSE 10.1. Concluding, the "Repair Bootloader" started from the installation CD should be able to behave as the "Install Bootloader" started from the installation, proposing me a real fix for the GRUB. Currently, packages and packages.DU have about 16MB for each file. Each time an installation source is refreshed, all files are downloaded again (about 50MB for factory). This process should be optimized. Fore example gzip compresses "packages" to about 2.5MB. The rpm installation started at 14:46 The rpm installation started at 15:19 When the rpm installation finished, I was in the Package Installion window (section Perform Installation), the "Synchronizing with ZENworks" automatically came up at and started. This started at 15:20 It was stilling happening at 15:44, so I hit the "abort" button - more than once... (even tried Alt-R key for Abort) - I seemed stuck... I finally hit TAB a few times and I noticed a window "Error Your service was added successfully in YaST but could not be synchronized with Zenworks. Command timed out after 800 milliseconds. hit the OK button, another Error window: "Error Cannot write settings to 'ZMD' Managed to continue to the "Root Password Configuration" window Under network mode, selected "User-controlled interfaces with Network manager" Download of latest release notes failed YaST2 had set up the wrong IP address The setup configured an IP in the 169.x.x.x.range I need to be in the 192.x.x.x range Went back to the "Network Configuration "window and disabled Network manager, I moved forward and ran the "Internet Connection Test" Network connection tested ok Under "Novell Customer Center Configuration" window, I selected the "Configure Now" button, and got an error window "Error An error occurred while connecting to the sever Under Details, I saw "Cannot open the file /etc/zmd/deviceid: No such file or directory" I selected "Configure Later" in order to get on with the installation In the next window (e.g the "Novell Customer Center Configuration" window), I had the choice to add these "Additional Installations Sources": inst-source (which was already selected) inst-source-extra inst-source-debug I left the default setting and hit OK - no problem so I hit the back button, and the other two sources added (inst-source-extra and inst-source-debug) Note: the d/l speed on my side is limited to 1024 kb/sec. The time was 16:04 at 16:14, YaST asked me to insert CD1. at 16:22, the "Creating source window" and clock were still working away. at 16:43 the "Creating source window" and clock were still working away. so I hit the "Back" button. A minute later, I hit the "Next" button. Idem for the "TAB" in order to check for error messages in other windows. Nothing One minute later I got a new window "Cannot access installation media CD1" Check that the server is accessible " I selected show details "Curl error for: http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/SL-OSSfactor.."; "Error code: Timeout reached Error message: Callback aborted" I hit abort I saw "Can't provide /suse/setup/descr/packages.cs from http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/SL-OSS-factory/inst-source"; I selected abort I selected abort abort again I selected abort Don't try again I got a "Probing source..." window followed by another "Creating source.. Machine is an IBM R50p internal hdd + USB hdd. I tried a new installation. As always as bootloader location /dev/sda (internal hdd was chosen). I always change this to /dev/sdb (USB hdd), but this time, the menu did not offer /dev/sdb as boot loader location (only /dev/sdb1, /dev/sdb2 was possible). I was also not pssible the change the order of the disks (it complained about no bootloader location selected, even if it was selected or configured in the edit files dialog). I always used (hd1) /dev/sda (hd0) /dev/sdb This chenges were only possible by editing the configuration files (/boot/grub/menu.list, /etc/grub.conf and device.map).
