[opensuse-arm] Beaglebone black with no HDMI output
Hi to all I try to setup openSUSE 13.1 on my Beaglebone Black. I follow the procedure described in this page: https://en.opensuse.org/HCL:BeagleBone_Black I choose the XFCE image (openSUSE-13.1-ARM-XFCE-beaglebone.armv7l-1.12.1-Build40.18). This works and it's cool; easy and powerful. The system start, and the yast configuration works (via serial console). But, even if the system seems to be perfectly working and the hdmi cable it`s connected to monitor, the monitor said me "No Signal" Someone have advice to let the monitor hdmi work correctly? I tried another image (openSUSE-Factory-ARM-E17-beaglebone.armv7l-1.12.1-Build224.4) but this doesn't boot and stops here Net: <ethaddr> not set. First of all, thanks Sebastian for your answer.
if you havn't connected or disabled keyboard/mouse the beagle will go into powersaving which also disables hdmi. try connecting the monitor and do
echo 0 > /sys/class/graphics/fb0/blank
I've tried, but no changes.
otherwise, many people have reported issues with hdmi on the beaglebone:
http://elinux.org/Beagleboard:BeagleBoneBlack_HDMI#HDMI_Issues
see also tested aka supported monitors:
http://elinux.org/Beagleboard:BeagleBone_Black_Accessories#Monitors_and_Reso...
I read this links, and I found interesting but 1) I don't understand the reason to ask a power supply grounded (there is no ground on board plug) and that have to be the same ground of the monitor. 2) My monitor it's a common LG 42'' inches TV. I don't think that the problem is the cable or the power adapter and not the screen too. I think in that way because the same board, with the same cable, with the same power adapter, on the same TV, but with a different OS (Fedora 20) was able to show on screen KDE 4 (slow, sure, but visible). I don't know if is a software problem, and if other guys have their beaglebone black up & running with HDMI working, I have to think that is a mixed issue (hw & sw). Anyway, any advice or user experience are welcome. Thanks in advance regards Alexjan

I've got a BBB and am downloading the file at the moment. My board has run opensuse JEOS in the past so this should be a good test. [Given my limited skill set, this is about all I can do to contribute. ;-) ] I noticed there is no sha256 for the XFCE disty. Maybe the file isn't good. FWIW, my HDMI cable is plugged into a DVI converter and KVM before going to my monitor. I doubt it makes a difference, but when you chase bugs, you need to be specific. I can confirm there is no graphics on the HDMI port as the original poster indicated. The OS seems to work OK on the serial port. Does the BBB despite AMxxxx require the omap drm we had to disable a while back due to build errors? Has that been fixed and reenabled again? No, I think this is unrelated to our configuration: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=86071 Most probably, the bug is in 3.17.0 as well. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-arm+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-arm+owner@opensuse.org

Did you mean 13.1? I'm downloading openSUSE-13.1-ARM-JeOS-beaglebone.armv7l-1.12.1-Build38.9.raw.xz Might as well verify if it works. JEOS also can use the HDMI port, but only like a dumb terminal. For my purposes, I don't use the HDMI port anyway. It (XFCE version as stated previously) boots/runs just fine. No HDMI. I verified the HDMI port itself was working with Ubuntu before testing opensuse. I couldn't change the time/date when running the ncurses yast initial set up. It could be I wasn't doing something correctly, but this would be worth checking out. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-arm+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-arm+owner@opensuse.org
