Hi everybody, I like to know whether vuescan (a scan program written by Ed Hamrick) runs on AMD64 and if so, if it runs on 32 Bit Linux or 64 Bit Linux or both. Unfortunately Ed Hamrick could not answer these questions. Now, if somebody here owns an AMD64, a scanner (preferably SCSI) and has some spare time, could he please download the trial version of vuescan at http://www.hamrick.com/vsm.html und try it? The advantage is that currently (for a limited time) Ed gives the Standard Version of Vuescan free for personal use on Linux, so anybody owning a scanner gets a very good scan program for free. Hi Andreas, I tried it on Suse 9.0 64 bit and although the program invokes, my Canon Lide 50 isn't recognised. This is after having already scanned an image with kooka that is part of Suse 9.0. This isn't conclusive evidence of a problem with vuescan however since vuescan doesn't claim to support the Lide 50, only the Lide 20 and Lide 30. It does suggest its very tuned to specific scanners if it does work however. Its a shame, since the colours of the scans I get from Kooka are very bad. I suspect there is a white balancing step missing that is done by the windows drivers, since the colours are fine on windows. Jeremy. On Monday 02 Feb 2004 3:06 pm, Andreas Huennebeck wrote:

With a LiDE30 I found I had to update to a newer SANE to get good colour. The version that came with SuSE 9.0 download edition was pretty old. IF you want to try a newer version without building it yourself you can try my RPM from http://shawnd.dyndns.org/files/sane-1.0.13-0.pm.3.x86_64.rpm Source RPM http://shawnd.dyndns.org/files/sane-1.0.13-0.pm.3.src.rpm -- Shawn D'Alimonte shawnd@mycybernet.net
