Örn,
Im not the original on this thread, But I too have been unable to get my Internet connection to work under SuSE 9.1 on my AMD 64 box. My first guess would be that the original poster has a winmodem and needs to install drivers specific to the winmodem. However, I do know that an issue does exist with SuSE 9.1 and perfectly good controller based modems.
My modem is a pci modem from Actiontec. This is a controller based modem, not a winmodem This modem works fine under Gentoo , debian, and Win XP on the same machine for all uses.
Ok, have you tried upping up the pppd debug, and if so what does it say? Does it establish a connection and then hang up, or does it fail to establish the connection. If it does, what was the last handshake the two pppd's were trying to establish?
