DON'T GIVE UP ON 64BIT LINUX!!!
SuSE wasn't right for me. Switch to Gentoo. I have been using Gentoo with no problems for quite some time now. My purchased DVD of SuSE is collecting dust on my bookshelf.
And, if you get stuck, theres plenty of help on IRC
