Anyone know of a good book about linux. Please do not refer me to google and yes I have checked Amazon. regards Leo
O'Reilly books tend to be pretty decent. Running Linux 4th Edition, by Matt Welsh, Lar Kaufman, Matthias Kalle Dalheimer and Terry Dawson. Matt Welsh started the Linux documentation project. Lar is a long time member of the Boston Linux and Unix user group. http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/runux4/ On 7 Oct 2002 at 10:45, Linux Leo wrote:

If you're into basic, black-screen Unix-like stuff, I think Essential System Administration, by Aeleen Frisch ought to be on you bookshelf. I wish I had the time to really get into it, but it is a lot clearer than many other books out there. I've had the 2nd Ed. for a couple of years, and yes she does recognize Linux. Perhaps she already has a version dedicated to Linux, I haven't looked lately. (I try to stay out of bookstores: they always cost me money!) --doug At 10:50 10/07/2002 -0400, Jerry Feldman wrote:

In that case a good one would be the Linux Administration Handbook. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0130084662/qid=1034007555/sr=1... Preston

Here is a url for a 5 meg pdf book on basic unix system administration. It is used in a college course in Australia. It is a little bit outdated, but it is still good for a beginner. http://www.infocom.cqu.edu.au/Courses/2002/T3/COIT13146/Resources/Study_Guid... Here is the book outline: http://www.infocom.cqu.edu.au/Courses/2002/T3/COIT13146/Resources/Study_Guid... I'd also highly recommend: Linux Administration Handbook: Evi Nemeth, Garth Snyder, Trent Hein. It is about $70.00 and by the same authors who did the red Unix Administration Handbook. They cover all 3 major distributions: Suse, Red Hat and Debian. It's down and dirty and one of the great points of the book is they cover how something is done in all 3 mentioned distros, if one does it differently they point that out as well. -Scott At 02:47 AM 10/8/2002 +0200, Carlos E.
