Hello,
Hi!
I am running Suse 7.2 on a headless and remote server. I wanted to upgrade PHP to 4.0.6 so I downloaded the following rpm:s from the update/7.2-catalog:
mod_php4-core-4.0.6-53.i386.rpm mod_php4-4.0.6-53.i386.rpm
Good :-)
But when trying to install (rpm -ivh) some error-messages says: "... conflicts with file from package mod_php4-core- 4.0.4pl1-102"
I even tried the --upgrade option for rpm but that didn't work either.
Should I deinstall the old core-package first? I am asking you before I try cause I cannot afford that server to stop functioning...
Anyone who succesfully upgraded their PHP on Suse 7.2?
Thanks.

Thanks! I will try that when my server isn't so busy... But why is that? Why doesn't a regular install/update work? Is something wrong? And what does "./name/of/rpm" do? So many questions... ;-) And I hope nothing is "broken" by doing this... /Micke Moggia On fredag, oktober 5, 2001, at 02:34 , THOMAS ADAM wrote:

Hi It's very funny to go at the SuSE main page and take a moment to look at the big fancy sign for ORDER SuSE 7.3, and a few moments later start been disappointing at the SuSE Shop with the PRE-ORDER only label... Why don't be more realistic and put the damm PRE-ORDER Label from the Main page ALSO !! so people don't have to waste their time going to the SuSE Shop to try to buy a product that any way... couldn't be buy at this time ! :(

What is the file which conflicts?

Not a good advice. It can easily break the working system. It's better to look what files conflict with php 4.0.6-53 packages. I think some other packages need to be upgraded too. -Kastus

Don't use -i when you want to replace a previous version! With -i you'll have both the old *and* the new version installed. -i is only good for installing a previously not existing package. For upgrading *always* use -U ( or -Uvh if you want verbose reporting) as that will first install the new files and then delete the old files.
