[opensuse] Update kills KDE Control Center Admin Mode
I'm not sure which one, but a recent update seems to have killed Admin mode in KDE on 10.3. Clicking the Admin Mode button in any control center window shows the red ring, but the thing hangs forever. Not sure exactly when or why, but I noticed this after todays updates, on 3 different 10.3 installs. Any clues? Yep......does the same thing on my 64-bit laptop...don't know about any others yet. At first stab, "I don't think so". To test, I just opened control center, confirmed it worked and then closed it. Then I did a zypper up that installed: openssh-4.6p1-58.3_58.6.i586.delta.rpm openssh-askpass-4.6p1-58.3_58.6.i586.delta.rpm Then I opened up control center again and it worked without issue. The error wasn't in opening control center, it was invoking admin mode while in control center. Are you saying that you are not having problems with admin mode? -- Ken Schneider SuSe since Version 5.2, June 1998 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Negative. I always have problems with Admin mode, well before the update. It hangs on "enter root password" and you can't sudo the control center an make Admin work either. As mentioned in my other post, the only way I get admin to work is to start kde as "root", then admin mode works fine. PITA, but it works fine ;-) -- David C. Rankin, J.D., P.E. That has been happening for a while. There is a bug in the "administrator mode" authentication that asks for the root password. You can't "sudo kcmshell fonts" either. The only way I have gotten around this is to actually start a kde session as root and then do the font install. I hope somebody is working this issue..... -- David C. Rankin, J.D., P.E. Easier to open a root shell in Konsole to kcmshell fonts, no? -- "Either the constitution controls the judges, or the judges rewrite the constitution." Judge Robert Bork Team OS/2 ** Reg. Yep, much easier, thanks Felix. The font install is also a much needed one: # kcmshell kcmfontinst And for the quick list of all possible modules: # kcmshell --list Added another arrow to my quiver today -- now if I could just remember them all. AFAIK 'sudo kcmshell fonts' shall not suppose to work as you wont get access to the x-server. However $ xhost + $su Password: # export DISPLAY=:0 won't help neither. Nevertheless I though that 'kdesu kcmshell fonts' will work 'kcmshell fonts' is working here, but it doesn't so. I had a CD with the fonts I wanted from my other system. Using my browser (Konqueror) I typed fonts:/ . This gave me two folders System and Personal. I copied them to Personal and they are now available to openoffice and scribus. I assume you could copy them from a file to ~/.fonts and this would put them in your personal font folder. -- Russ Linux register user 441463 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=355374 is considered fixed. Check the KDE 3 version that you use. Try KDE 3.5.9-53.5 from KDE repositories. It works with exception of: kcmshell fileshare that has missing top of the window.
