That has been happening for a while. There is a bug in the "administrator mode" authentication that asks for the root password. You can't "sudo kcmshell fonts" either. The only way I have gotten around this is to actually start a kde session as root and then do the font install.
AFAIK 'sudo kcmshell fonts' shall not suppose to work as you wont get access to the x-server. However $ xhost + $su Password: # export DISPLAY=:0 won't help neither. Nevertheless I though that 'kdesu kcmshell fonts' will work 'kcmshell fonts' is working here, but it doesn't so. The only way to get the root rights on KDE control here is by 'kdesu kcontrol' - -- All the best, Peter J.
