The curious thing is that Windows says my WiFi is insecure, and warns about it full time, but Linux doesn't say a word. Or Android. [opensuse] Thunderbird 78 and encryption status

Hi, since there have been multiple threads on different lists about availability of Thunderbird 78 for openSUSE please let me share the latest news. Upstream released Thunderbird 78.2.2 last week. Upstream did not enable automatic updates to 78 from 68 and also recommended to distros to not upgrade until now. It's likely that this changes with 78.2.2 being released now. The main reason is that there was no finished PGP support in TB 78. Previously it was provided by enigmail but as TB 78 does only allow webextensions enigmail cannot work anymore to provide PGP support. Therefore upstream implemented their own OpenPGP support natively in Thunderbird 78 which has been finally enabled by default in recent versions. You can find the upstream FAQ here and if you are using Thunderbird with enigmal today you really should read it carefully: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/openpgp-thunderbird-howto-and-faq So what about the current status for openSUSE: The "mozilla" OBS repository (which is for ages the official project you get current versions as backports to supported openSUSE distros) currently contains Thunderbird 78.2.2 enigmail 2.2.2 (which requires 78.2.2) (please find its purpose in the FAQ above) how those will soon be submitted to Tumbleweed. When this "soon" will be depends a bit on your feedback if there are still major issues found during the next days. So please feel free to provide feedback on the list, in bugzilla, or directly to me. After Tumbleweed I'm quite sure that the SUSE guys will also move along putting the version into supported Leap versions. [opensuse] Sound out in only one user

DV6000 system with gnome2 and opensuse 11.4 Not sure why sound is out. Sound works in test user and other os. Without moving all dot directories and dot files I am not sure where to look. I tried moving .gconf .gconfd .gnome2 and .gnome2_private still no sound. it also messed up evolution. I have checked the online suse references apparently no one documented a sudden sound loss. Is there a utility to let me read a timezone file? e.g. /usr/share/zoneinfo/Europe/London is a binary file containing information about the London timezone. Is there anything that will read that file an output its contents in a readable format? Now I'm formatting back the stick, so I fired up gparted, and looked at the posibilities. fat16 limits at 4GB, so no. fat32 would be the normal choice. But "exfat" is greyed out - why? Perhaps a newer version of gparted (I'm on Leap 15.1)? I did it manually: Telcontar:~ # mkfs.exfat -n Toshiba32 /dev/sde1 mkexfatfs 1.2.8 Creating... done. Flushing... done. [opensuse] unusable konsole for starting vim

[opensuse] Disk cloning with ddrescue (gnu)

Hi, I have a suspicious hard disk (suspicion of failure), and I have cloned it to a new one. Exact same model and version. A lot, for a disk with no errors found. ddrescue said initially (yesterday night) that it would take 5:45 hours. This morning it was still running: it said 7 minutes remaining, it took about 14. The thing is, I could see in gkrellm that ddrescue was alternating reading from one disk and writing on the other, instead of doing it simultaneously. Why? :-o I would understand that when it finds a read error it drops to alternating the operations, but when there is no problem, why?
