This is so other people running into similar situations can benefit from the entire discussion and not have difficulty following it. On to your topic: As memory serves me, if you right-click on 'My Computer' and select 'Manage' you'll see a number of 'snap-ins' populating a tree view on the left (I /think/ they're called 'snap-ins'; could be wrong) Select the one called 'storage' and then the one below that called 'disk management' You click on the device you want to manage, to select it, and then right-click on it to select one of the options. In this case, you want to a) create a partition and format it vfat, while b) leaving the remainder of the drive space "unallocated." [opensuse] Autofs mounting

Hi, I'm trying to give a daemon access to a USB-drive. Manually as root it works fine, but the daemon does not run as root, so the daemon has no rw-access to the drive. I googled and tried some of the suggestions, with no luck. What I did : My auto.master : +auto.master /mnt/vchanger /etc/auto.vchanger --timeout=30 My auto.vchanger, working OK as root : # /etc/auto.vchanger * -fstype=auto,rw :/dev/disk/by-uuid/& I tried this in auto.vchanger : * -fstype=auto,rw,uid=bacula :/dev/disk/by-uuid/& * -fstype=auto,rw,gid=bacula :/dev/disk/by-uuid/& * -fstype=auto,rw,uid=$UID :/dev/disk/by-uuid/& * -fstype=auto,rw,gid=$GID :/dev/disk/by-uuid/& * -fstype=auto,rw,gid=users :/dev/disk/by-uuid/& I always get an error when trying to access the drive (as root or myself, user bacula has no shell) : error: unrecognized mount option "gid=0" or missing value "gid=0" can be replaced with "uid=107", or "gid=110", depending on the auto.vchanger content. Those uid's and gid's do exist. After changes to auto.vcahnger, I restarted autofs (rcautofs restart). Anyone who can help me ? I'm working with OS 11.4, 32bit. I was looking for a favourite package "grip" but it did not appear through yast software management module. I've got many of the community repositories installed including the ones for KDE and GNOME as well as the default opensuse ones. I did a google search and found the package located in an opensuse multimedia repository. This multimedia repository is not included in the repository list and I was wondering why. Can anyone shed some light? Hi. I've asked this question over at the xen list earlier this week and still don't have a solution. We are running xen on SLES11SP1. We only allow the kernel to have so much memory with this line from /boot/grub/menu.lst: kernel /boot/xen.gz vga=mode-0x314 dom0_mem=1024M I need to figure out how to get this parameter to survive a kernel update. I know about /etc/sysconfig/bootloader, which seems like the right place, but I can't get it to work. Below is my /etc/sysconfig/bootloader file. I've tried adding dom0_mem=1024M to each of the XEN_ lines below and rebooted. The memory setting is not set on any of them. Anyone know where in this file it should be set or if it should be set another place? [opensuse] Firefox 3.6.16/NoScript/AOL Mail

I'm having a perplexing issue on my desktop machine. I'm still running openSUSE 11.0/x64. I've added the Mozilla repo for SLED11 to keep up to date(per David Rankin's Suggestion). I recently re-activated NoScript on this machine, and it works fine except for AOL Web Mail. I Know, AOL sucks, but I have been using the same netscape.net account for over 13 years and don't want to lose it(and since AOL bought it I have to live with it). Anyway, when I have NoScript enabled and I'm using AOL Mail in standard mode, I can't view the contents of an email at all. I can in Basic mode(but basic mode doesn't auto check for new mail). Even when I turn off all of NoScript, it still refuses to load. I have to actually disable it in the addons menu. The weirdest thing is that it worked just fine on my laptop with 11.0/x86 and 3.6.16(till a bad RAM stick crashed it - haven't reinstalled yet...........). Any ideas? (And please no "use a mail client" replies. I used one when I was on dial up 20 years ago. No thanx). Guys, It looks to me like one of the list serve servers went nuts. I got 30 or so "Undeliverable Mail Returned to Sender" messages from the suse list for messages that had ALREADY POSTED to the list and that have ALREADY been replied to. Strange... I have know idea where/what caused this problem. [opensuse] No DRI in 11.4, using nvidia driver.

I have a Sony VPCF1 laptop that has an Nvidia GeForce GT 425M/PCI/SSE2 chip set. The proprietary Nvidia driver (NVIDIA 260.19.36) loads and runs. But I do not get direct rendering. I do not see messages in the X server log saying it was disabled, but glxinfo says it is disabled, and I cannot get desktop effects. And programs like the LLNL VisIt application run dog slow. I am not sure where to start. [opensuse] Slightly OT but computers

Hi all Does anyone have an eMachines em250 KAV60 i have one here that belongs to a friend that runs fine for about 3 to 4 minuets then if you are watching the processor usage it drops to zero the mouse still moves the pointer but nothing else works and the only way of switching it off is to force a shutdown by holding the power button down anyone got any ideas . I have 2xLinkStation2's (2x2TB HD in Each Raid1'd as backups. I have tried midnight commander and have had no luck gaining access to them it says you should be able to telnet into them but the telnet port is blocked or the service isn't started. [opensuse] kmail still trying old account

I just changed ISP's and removed my old account from kmail settings> configure kmail > accounts and removed the old POP account Now when I go to check mail the old account is not listed but the pop up at the bottom indicates that is is still trying the old account. [opensuse] Evolution unexpected behaviour: Nobody else see it?

Folks, Wonder if I'm the only one in the Universe to see some unexpected behaviour with Evolution 2.32.1 on openSUSE 11.4: 1) Whenever you sent a mail messages it went copied twice into Sent folder (I've already opened a bug on this though it has be not yet replied) 2) If you try to set one of the copied message for elimination it moved into Trash folder but then it never went canceled, it permanently stay there! 3) The text on the screen looks as "cutted" in some point but if you scroll the window down it jump out correctly or back again cutted as it being smashed over the top of a wall. [opensuse] kmix widget..

Seem to have an issue with my kmix widget at the moment.. It was running very slow/not really working at all. I deleted it, then couldn't figure out how to get it back :-(, finally found it again, but still slow/doesn't work. eg press volume up/down controls on the keyboard, couple of minutes later I get the indicator on the screen, it then stays there for about 5+ minutes, then the volume *may* go up or down... I'm sure it was fine until a week or 2 ago.
