[opensuse] future of xmms

Has xmms been discontinued for 10.3? I've downloaded 10.3 RC1 and configured a number of software repositories. However, I've been unable to find a version for 10.3. I do prefer it as a simple alternative for the all-embracing media players of one type or another. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place or it has been ported as yet. [opensuse] OpenOffice questions

I'm running OpenSuSE 10.2. I installed initially from the box DVD. Although I installed linux 64 it intalled OO 586. All the upgrades worked ok. Even I got one of the last ones with nice green gecko splahimage. The last upgrade broke the installation and I could not load OO. Then I saw a thread here and I went and I realized many of the necessary packages for OO were uninstalled. I reinstalled them and also this time I tried the 64 version of OO. Everything is working very well (build 2.3.0.1.2) Here the questions: 1. Why opensuse dvd install 586 initially when the OS version I was installing was 64? I assume it was not available at the time is that correct? 2. Will I miss anything using the 64 vs the 32 version of OO? 2. Why the green gecko image you see when you loaded is not there any more? Now is the boring blue one. I know those images are changed with new versions but the green gecko did not last very long. How can I get it back. [opensuse] OOo 2.3 update

I updated to OOo2.3 using the openoffice:stable repo at opensuse.org. I use sled sp1 and now when trying to open any OOo file, i am first presented with a "filter selection" dialog with 3 choices: OO.org 1.0 chart, help content and OpenDocument chart. If i select one of those options and click "ok" it only opens what ever it is i selected (OO.org 1.0 chart, help content and OpenDocument chart). If i "cancel" that box i am presented with a "templates and documents" dialog. What happened? I can not open any OOo files. [opensuse] Mounting External Hard Disks

Hi all, I've been trying to use a external disk. I can format it, mount it, but I can't write on it, cause always openSUSE 10.2 mounts it with owner and group as root. I found that strange cause all the usb pens are writable. Why not the disk? The only answer that I found is that the pens are format with vfat. I format the disk with vfat and it mounted with my user name as owner and group as root. So ... Microsoft has so poluted our collective minds that it has convinced us that it is somehow illegal for us to actually EARN a living using the software we have purchased (or in their case, rented). Virtually everything their OS does is check to see that the user is doing what Microsoft feels is to the benefit of Microsoft and not to the benefit of the equipment owner and the benefit of the user of the product. In fact, Linux encourages you to distribute it freely and use it in the way YOU want it in the way it best benefits YOU! When Linux fails to do these things, it is because of a malfunction, not design or legalities, and there are literally thousands of people out in the world working, largely for free, to fix those bugs. Where companies like Novell make their money is not by selling Linux, but by selling support and expertise. There is nothing wrong with that. They give Linux away (except for the cost of the media and paper) and earn their money by conducting seminars, sending support engineers out, helping design installations, answering technical questions to those that are willing to pay for that information. They don't have to pay people to verify 60 digit CD codes were legally obtained by you from a particular store for a particular machine with a CPU having certain disk drives in it. What a world Microsoft has created! It makes honest people *think* they are thieves!!!! Lynn, STOP feeling guilty about USING Linux and certainly stop feeling guilty about asking for help, whether or not you eventually make a profit from the information is irrelevant. I found out when I tried to put a Win-XP VM on a 16 GB USB key just how slow those are compared with ordinary disk access. I mean, I already knew that, but it wasn't really obvious just *how* bad it was until I could see controls and buttons on an application getting drawn one at a time. I moved that VM to an ordinary external HD with a USB 2.0 connection, and it was quite usable. Not as convenient to move from one computer to another, granted, but it made the difference between works and doesn't work. [opensuse] cups and Windows

Hi, Okay, after playing around a little bit for a while i still gotta come and ask here. I got my printer setup on my suse 10.1 server system and i can print just fine with my Suse 10.2 client but not with the Windows client(s). In Windows i can browse for the printer and it shows it up nicely. Double click tells me that it'll download the driver to the system but then it still can't find it and i will need to install it manually. Anyways, once done this, i can nicely add it to my windows printer(s) but when i try to print something it tells me "Access denied, unable to connect". I'm not reallly sure what's wrong since i can print from my suse 10.2 client just fine. Can anyone help me? This would be appreciated! [opensuse] initrd

hey all, its been awhile since i've had to compile a kernel, but i had to for some things and i've installed it with no real issue, the thing is that I used the old initrd file for my boot loader. Therefore it didn't seem to load the new modules. Makes sense i guess. Anyway, i'm on a ppc and i have not found an easy way to create an initrd image.
