Created attachment 667908 [details] dmesg from kernel 4.1.18
added repositories/Kernel:/openSUSE-42.1/standard to repositories with Yast installed kernel 4.1.18 with Yast
rebooted with no additional options: black s56b2698creen rebooted adding "idle=nomwait": booted successfully to KDE (am actually posting from this session) started fast, no pause, asked for passhprase, just like normal
Thanks. So this confirmed that the recent support for Skylake in intel_idle breaks on your machine. We need to report it to upstream to address it.
but touchpad is still not detected :-(
(I have seen that with kernel 4.3 it was detected - see previous dmesg - but could not test it, as only text login was possible...)
what are we doing next? :-)
Please try another kernel in OBS home:tiwai:bnc969098-kernel repo. http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/tiwai:/bnc969098-kernel/stan... Download kernel-default-4.1.18-*.rpm from the URL above. Uninstall the previous 4.1.18 kernel like zypper rm kernel-default-4.1.18 then install this one zypper in kernel-default-4.1.18-*.rpm This one contains backports for touchpad. Hopefully this makes something better. Note that this one also contains the SKL intel_idle backport, so you likely need to pass idle=nomwait option. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

no good news :-(
I reinstalled 4.1.18-kernel and then the intel-lpss..., booted to 4.1.18 kernel with idle=nomwait (fast and complete), but there is no touchpad. hwinfo --mouse shows only the plugged usb mouse, in dmesg there is no word "tocuhpad".
OK, no surprising, something might be still missing. Could you give hwinfo output and dmesg output again?
I doublechecked with Yast if intel-lpss-kmp-default-4.3 really is installed, and in shows as installed, the name appears red in the column "Installed" (don't know if this means something).
You said: "reboot to 4.1.18 kernel containing backport patches..." Did I miss something?
It's meant for the kernel in OBS home:tiwai:bnc969098-kernel repo. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

So, for now, I'm afraid that it's way too intrusive changes necessary for your touchpad on 4.1.x. That said, this bug will be likely RESOLVED/UPSTREAM, as this works with 4.3 and later kernels.
I see. I guess it will take a long time until these kernels arrive in leap, if ever?
I guess the only (and the biggest) problem for using 4.4 or later kernel is nvidia stuff. Is there a nvidia-prime repo for openSUSE Tumbleweed?
I see this: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/bosim:/suse-prime/openSUSE_T... but I used the one-click-install here: https://software.opensuse.org/package/suse-prime (and that is not shown for tumblweed, only for leap) I am afraid of installing tumbleweed instead of leap, as this will be a production machine, and the only one I have with me... I'd rather stay "on the safe side", is is important for me that the updates with zypper up on leap work just "as always" :-) Do I have any other option than just to live without touchpad? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Created attachment 670602 [details] HWINFO From Lenovo S21e, same issue with non-functioning touchpad
Sorry, it's no help to hang on this bug. The Elantech touchpad over designware i2c on ASUS laptops is WONTFIX for Leap, as we discussed in this lengthy debug session. If the issue is same for your Lenovo machine, the result is also same, WONTFIX. If it's a different issue, you'd need to open another bug report in anyway. BTW, Skylake intel_idle fix was merged to 4.6-rc1, and backported to stable. It'll be likely pulled in the next update. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
