Sorry if I seem pedantic. BTDT. Its almost always an access permission issue, like I said. Working within cups rather than yast lets you do things with visibility that you can't get when you have more layers insulating you. Work on the cups config files ... Like it says at the top of /etc/cups/cupsd.conf, read the man page[1]. It then says # Log general information in error_log - change "warn" to "debug" # for troubleshooting... Yes, do that, turn on verbose Cups logging, then do the wash/lather/repeat bit to get the error message again and then search for the printer in the log file. # tail -200 /var/log/cups/error_log ... ah, clues! Well, YMMV. You may now need to check access, ls, lsusb, whatever. You can then use chown, chgrp and chmod. You *may* (but I hope not) have to modify udev rules to deal with things when it reboots. Then again, it may be a /etc/permission issue. I'd have to read over your shoulder to tell. Do you run vnc? And oh, yes, I forgot. To make my life easier I add my name and that of root to the lpadmin group. Just paranoia. Re-start cups, log out and log back in. Just paranoia. Or perhaps I'm an engineer who read to many 'hard boiled detective' stories in my youth. That and I'm a believer in RTFM.
