Perfectly reasonable, why should a business support someone they have no contract with to help, someone has to pay for THEIR time, they are a business, not a charity.

Perhaps more consideration will be taken in the future. I just tired of getting into arguments on this list when an argument was not intended or warranted.
And to try to be rational, I was merely expressing that unless a Dell product is "registered" in the "proper" owners name, you will get absolutely no help from them. And if you have no idea of the previous owner, you are screwed again. Even though, the question and answer is "not" owner specific and should be part of some sort of help area on their website.

Hi Duaine, To begin with, your post really should be on a windows list or forum. That said, I have had several dealings with Dell and found them courteous and helpful, even when discussing Linux installs and problems. If someone came to you with problems with an organ bought elsewhere, how long would you offer free advice? Also, did you get the original install disk with the laptop? Dell is required to provide one if the REGISTERED CUSTOMER requests one. Depending on the length of time since you bought the laptop, you might be able to obtain the sellers name from Ebays customer resolution center. Tom -- “What we do for ourselves dies with us.
