[diesel@linux-x9yw ~]$ lsmod | grep r816* r8169 61333 0 As suspected your software system uses a r816*9* kernel module (...9) but your hardware is a Realtek [...] RTL8111/816*8*B [10ec:816*8*] (...8).
So I suspect an equal fault like described in - http://forums.opensuse.org/deutsch-german/hilfe-und-helfen/netzwerk/473306-o... - http://www.foxhop.net/realtek-dropping-packets-on-linux-ubuntu-and-fedora - http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=80757 - http://www.twm-kd.com/linux/realtek-rtl81688111e-and-ubuntu-linux/ - http://unixblogger.wordpress.com/2011/10/18/the-pain-of-an-realtek-rtl8111rt... - to be continued ....just google for "10ec:8168" ....) *II.* But (not very probably) the kernel module might be already there (but not loaded). So you might try to unload the false and load the fitting driver (-v stand for verbose - I like to see what the system is doing....) su - rmmod -v r8169 modeprobe -v r8168 *IF this would help you might have to blacklist the false driver.* (please mail again!) *III.* *IF THIS DOES NOT HELP:* 1) You might try to compile the fitting driver/kernel module r8168 from the sources alike the users here have proposed. _2)_ Not working seems to be the (easy) way I thought of: As my search for "r8168" on the the openSUSE build service for 12.1 software.opensuse.org/search?q=r8168&baseproject=openSUSE%3A12.1 and having a look at
[diesel@linux-x9yw ~]$ uname -a Linux linux-x9yw 3.1.9-1.4-desktop #1 SMP PREEMPT Fri Jan 27 08:55:10 UTC 2012 (efb5ff4) x86_64 c x86_64 GNU/Linux [diesel@linux-x9yw ~]$
your kernel openSUSE version number 3.1.9-1.4 and your openSUSE kernel flavor desktop and openSUSE 12.1 and your x86_64 architecture brought me *no fitting prebuild kernel module* like something named "r8168-kmp-desktop-8.024.00_k3.1.9-1.4-1.13.x86_64.rpm" and build for openSUSE 12.1 (not Tumbleweed). 3) Another way might be to ask the maintainers of the more or less unofficial repositories https://build.opensuse.org/project/users?project=drivers%3Anic or https://build.opensuse.org/package/users?package=r8168&project=home%3ATheTiger if they would build a fitting module for openSUSE 12.1 4) Or to file a bug report and help openSUSE and SUSE to improve the distributions... Sorry if I brought you news about more work to do ... Good luck!
