All instructions there that depend on image content (e.g., the required package names) are useless on a high DPI system. The fonts in those images are about half a legible size, similar to http://ubuntuone.com/0zM9JHXB69IrvZoT989o5g . OTOH, on a high DPI system, probably your objection to FF font rendering disappears.
