First, take a look at
I have started the torrent download of the file
pclinuxos-kde-2010.12.iso.torrent
from the page:
http://torrent.ibiblio.org/doc/191/torrents
but can you comment on the stability of this PCLOS?
It's easier than e=mc2 It's elemental It's light years ahead It's a wise choice It's Radically Simple It's ... PCLinuxOS <grin> Actually, it is as stable as any of the Linux distros and more so than most because it is very well tested before it is released...eg, it is not 'cutting edge' versions released out the door in an attempt to 'be first'. It lags a little bit and incorporates the bug fixes found by many of the 'competitors' that did get it out the door first. This tends to lead to stability. This doesn't mean that it is unable to perform, it just means that what it does do doesn't tend to interrupt you with bugs very often, and what bugs are there are almost always in the rest of the distros also, and also unfixed there also....and you have found one of the lesser known uncommon oopses. It is not uncommon to have a machine not need a reboot for months and in some cases, you are more likely to have a power failure than need a reboot due to a failure of Linux itself. Also, I suggest that the downloads of the CD versions take so little time being only a few hundred meg or so in some cases, that the torrent versions can actually take much longer to download and can be frustrating, but YMMV. On a DVD, a torrent could be a better choice, but with PCLinuxOS, there aren't any (that i know of) to download, as all are LiveCD releases. Again, check out several of the the LiveCD versions to see which you like best, and remember, you can create a disk installation of multiple desktop environments at any time if you share your system and you like one and someone else prefers another....you can each have your preferences without interference. Linux is about CHOICE....YOUR Choice, not some manufacture that makes youu PAY through the nose over and over each time THEY change their minds, AND, Linux makes the VIRUS kiddies work very hard to compromise your system so if you are even a little bit smart, in addition to stability, your system is much more SECURE.
