I've been subscribed to the Grub mailing lists for years. The bug reports and problems even with 1.98 remain scary. I don't let *buntu put Grub anywhere but its / partition, and don't use it to boot anything other than *buntu, and only then on a test basis since conforming its cmdline parameters to my (text-only/non-GUI, full disclosure) requirements is so vexatious. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive."
