Sending is done via smtp servers, not imap. You can configure as many smtp servers as you like in thunderbird. The trick is to associate an smtp server to each pop/imap account or identity.
Carlos, AFAIU he wants to have two identities (with different SMTP servers) for the same IMAP account. I use Thunderbird only at some clients and am thus not a crack about that app, but I suspect that this is not possible. (Actually, not handling several ids for one account properly is one of the reasons why I don't like Thunderbird.)
