My screen can go black when clicking on an icon/widget, everything is still running e.g. Alt-Tab displays a list of running apps, but i cannot get the display back unless I Ctrl-Alt-Backspace.
If it stops after you disabled the "present windows" effect, I think i'm being as dim as my screen here, where's the "present windows" effect? I also get a mini demo of the same issue when the splash screen is loading KDE, it loads the Disk Drive, tools, World in order fine but it turns the screen black as soon as it hits the cashew and it recovers after a second and continues happily.
this is a bug that has already been fixed. is it related to the version of the driver (see below)
A long time ago this happened with the nvidia binary driver, if the video RAM was full, but I think it was only windows and not the whole screen.
I use the 180.29 driver from the repos.
Sven I've got an old Geforce FX 5500 AGP/SSE/3DNOW! card so that version of the driver is no good for me. I'm using the updated beta version of the one for my card ( 2.1.2 NVIDIA 173.14.16) but that hasn't stopped the problem.
