This is a Atheros 5007eg? Don't use the madwifi from suse, it won't work.
Nope He's got the AR242x, which I have as well, and He's got the same mad-wifi dl'ed and on His system. This ought to get His wifi working. David Rankin does this much better than I do, so I'm waiting for David to give the OP the bugs ironed out, new install of mad-wifi. The way the OP is doing it, he will be in the same position as I am, rebuilding the driver with each kernel update. Simple enough with make, make install as root, but I don't remember if the make file was included, or if he'll need to add the config command before doing make and make install.
Get this one:
http://snapshots.madwifi.org/madwifi-hal-testing/
blacklist the ath5k module in /etc/modules.d/blacklist (just adding 'ath5k' in the file) unpack the tarball and just do a make make install modprobe ath_pci
voila!
