Hi,
Have just got a system back after a SATA connection snapped off the M/board. Unfortunately the m/board could not be salvaged and was replaced with a board with an Intel core 2 Dui processor. The motherboard chipset is: Intel 945GC + 1CH7 and its model is the 945GCT-M2/13333 V1.0A. Having a look on the manufacturers website for the board
http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Products/ProductsDetail.aspx?CategoryID=1&TypeID=32&DetailID=827&DetailName=Feature&MenuID=1&LanID=0 it is noticed that the board does not have a printer LPT port, as I noted when I tried to connect the parallel cable.
In a similar position, I decided to try a USB to parallel cable. It worked out of the box. Just connect the printer to a USB port with this cable and SUSE did the rest. Perhaps I was lucky and just happened to get a cable that worked. But I think there are not so many chipsets for this. So I bet many, if not all, will work.
Tnx for the quick reply. What is the name/model of the USB-Parallel device as maybe I can get one in Douth Africa?
That reply won't be as quick. I bought it at a local gadget store. They sell rather generic hardware usually made in China, labelled with the name of the store, and typically little else.
