Hello, I just received a gigabit hub. The cable connected to my son's XP computer is green (gigabit), but the one connected to my openSUSE box is yellow (10/100)
is there something to do to have gigabit on the Linux box? (network eth, of course, r8169 module, RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller
the cables are cat 5, so I don't expect full speed, but the XP cable is older and the green light is on :-)
Well, although Cat5e should be better, Cat5 "should" work with Gigabit Ethernet. Also check that you have a full four twisted pairs cable. Could you also place the output of 'ethtool eth0' ? A few clews could be found there. You can also use that tool to try to change the network link mode manually, but generally that is not a recommended method. If you intent to place the output like I suggested you to, please do it before any manual change.
quick test: 450Mb/1mn, that is 125Mb/s average
thanks jdd
