I am trying to write a script and I am lost with cdrecord. What I am trying to do is grad the dir I need to backup incase my box crashes, then burn that to DVD so I can take it off site. My problem is that I don't know how to translate my recorder /dev/hda to something cdrecord will understand. Hmm...
I assume grad == grab ...

Yes, grad = grab. I am dyslexic. Still does answer the question I asked.
No criticism intended, just needed to make certain that a couple of alternatives (grade and guard) were not meant.
You indicated elsewhere that you were using SLES 9 and I know little about this version, I am not even sure whether this uses the 2.4 or 2.6 kernel (there are significant difference in CD/DVD support). However, I am fairly certain this would have the original cdrecord so please disregard comments about wodim. There are significant differences between what cdrecord supports and wodim (and growisofs capabilities).
I think your best bet would be to contact a cdrecord related forum and supply them with the details of the version of cdrecord/growisofs in use when you contact them. Or give the list a bit more detail about you have and how you intend to use it, so someone who has the relevant experience can give more appropriate assistance.

GT, Thanks. I found the answer. Bad part I had to output the info to txt file then use text to way, so if anyone else who is dyslexlic, here a nice way to get information you need. There are two ways info/man <package> | festival --tts Or info <package> > <package>.txt ; cat <package>.txt | text2wave -o <package>.wav ; lame <package>.wav <package>.mp3 Anyway here what I got. cdrecord -scanbus scsibus0: 0,0,0 0) 'DELL ' 'SuSE ' 'V1.0' Removable Disk Side note, done any one know how to make that line into a fuction? -- -- Command, n.: Statement presented by a human and accepted by a computer in such a manner as to make the human feel as if he is in control. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
