Getting out of windows and into suse lets you have access to console so you can run the ifconfig command. There is probably a way to do that in windows, but I don't know how as I am not particularly knowledgeable about windows. So I am accommodating my lack of knowledge by using this method.

It is almost the same. Find console (command prompt) somewhere in Accessories menu and open it.
