David,
[stuff deleted]
That's right, it installs the .586.rpm packages that don't work either on my 10.3 or 11.0 x86_64 systems.
Think your java is working with FF 3.0.1 on x86_64, try:
http://radar.weather.gov/radar.php?rid=SHV&product=N0R&overlay=11101111&loo p=yes
thsi site works fine on my opensuse 11.0 x86_64 distro with 64 bit Firefox 3. I use the x86_64 rpms of java-1_6_0-openjdk and java-1_6_0-openjdk-plugin. There are also packages for java-1_7_0-IcedTea and corresponding plugin. i used these with 10.3 and they worked fine. when I enter about:plugins in FF3 on 11.0, it says for Java GCC Web Browser Plugin (using IcedTea) 1.2 Note that Konqueror in 11.0, funning KDE 4.1 beta, does not display teh above site. about:plugins indicatees it is using KJAS for java applets..
