[opensuse] FF3 and java
Use opensuse 11.0 and firefox3. Wherever i go that requires java, the java applets do not run. Rpm -qa java* show sun java 1.6 installed. How do i get java to work in FF3? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I think you need java-1_6_0-sun-plugin installed. 'zypper in java-1_6_0-sun-plugin' will do it. Alexey -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

If you have 11.0 installed (as a new installation) and using FF as installed during this 11.0 installation, then the java plugin is already installed by default. This is the case for a 32-bit system. What it may be for 86-64 I don't know. In either case, check the Preferences in FF to see if you have Java/Javascript selected for use by FF. That's not correct. I have no java plug-in installed on my default OpenSUSE 11 x86-64. And even 'zypper in sun-java-plugin' ends with architecture change for the most of sun-java-* packages. For x86-64 systems there's not yet a Java plugin. openjdk should bring one for openSUSE 11.1 with an updated Java, Andreas -- Andreas Jaeger, Director Platform / openSUSE, aj@suse.de SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) Maxfeldstr. 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany GPG fingerprint = 93A3 365E CE47 B889 DF7F FED1 389A 563C C272 A126

Don't know about 11.0 but with 10.3 and FF3 I used icedtea. Works well. Can't hurt to try it. Bob S -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

That's right, it installs the .586.rpm packages that don't work either on my 10.3 or 11.0 x86_64 systems. There are also packages for java-1_7_0-IcedTea and corresponding plugin. i used these with 10.3 and they worked fine. when I enter about:plugins in FF3 on 11.0, it says for Java GCC Web Browser Plugin (using IcedTea) 1.2 Note that Konqueror in 11.0, funning KDE 4.1 beta, does not display teh above site. about:plugins indicatees it is using KJAS for java applets.. I don't speak for SGI in this forum. So the icedtea java plugin works for some things in FF3 but not others, like the link above; which happens to be one of my favorites too. http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=4802695 Support Java Plug-in on 64-bit AMD and Intel -- Sent from my wired giant hulking workstation Nate Pearlstein - npearl@sgi.com - Product Support Engineer -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
