Folks,
I have a Dell Latitude D830 laptop (Core 2 Duo/nVidia Quadro NVS 140M graphics/2GB RAM/USB but no FireWire) and would like to add a portable webcam to it to provide me with video conferencing ability. I'm looking for recommendations on which webcam I should purchase (doesn't have to be ultra high-resolution, but not low-end either), which works well in a dual-headed Linux (SUSE 10.3) environment. I also need advice regarding what video conferencing SW I should mainly focus on. My immediate need is to conference with a Mac user who's used to using iChat. I have both DSL and cable broadband available, so bandwidth is generally not an issue, though something that also works well at lower speeds would be nice to have.
Thanks in advance for any recommendations. I suspect this query may engender a lot of different, "religious" opinions. :-)
If you don't mind closed-source - skype works ok with 10.3, and the latest version has webcam support. You can check which cams are ok on skype forums. And I believe there is skype version for MacOS X. -- Svetoslav Milenov (Sunny) Even the most advanced equipment in the hands of the ignorant is just a pile of scrap. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
