Yes, a modem is viable too. I know because I did. The trick is to use an off-line fetcher/responder, like "leafnode". You download the bunch of new messages, and disconnect. You write the answers while off line, then reconnect to send. Thunderbird can work in this way, too. For users with permanent connection, but metered, it is good as well, because they can download only the headers, then the contents of only those messages they are interested in. - -- Cheers, Carlos E.
