I have seen screenshots of compiz with a vista like right side panel holding the clock, calendar, system stats, etc. that I would love to add. The problem is that (1) I don't know what it is called or (2) where to look to get it. I have looked at kasbar, ksim and universal sidebar under KDE, but those are not what I've seen. Anyone else have any other ideas?
Try screenlets (http://www.screenlets.org/index.php/Home)
Does it really require the 100M or so of all the gnome stuff to work? There are a ton of gnome dependencies listed in Yast just to try and install it.
The 1.2 Mb KDE 3 equivalent is SuperKaramba - packaged in kdeutils3-extra. To run it, enter "desktop widgets" or superkaramba in the start menu search, (it lurks in Utilities->Desktop otherwise, then click Get New Stuff to download the list of fresh widgets, install the ones you like and find them lurking on your desktop.
