That could explain if you now "cd" to the "mount point", and get an empty directory listing... If so, the files are probably still there and safe...but on an unmounted partition. I'm guessing these drives are all internal, but just in case...are these NFS mounted file systems? That also would show you an empty folder if the NFS mount failed.
