So, is hwinfo or lshal lying on my system (or both), or is Plextor lying ?
Model: "PLEXTOR DVDR PX-740A"
hwinfo: Features: CD-R, CD-RW, DVD, DVD-R
lshal: storage.cdrom.dvdplusrdl = true (bool) storage.cdrom.dvdplusrw = true (bool) storage.cdrom.dvdplusr = true (bool) storage.cdrom.dvdram = false (bool) storage.cdrom.dvdrw = false (bool) storage.cdrom.dvdr = true (bool) storage.cdrom.dvd = true (bool) Hm, thats really strange.. especially as hwinfo now uses HAL to gather this information. If i was to guess, i'd say you're using an "old" openSUSE version (prior to 10.2 or even 10.1) where hal didn't have Danny Kukawkas great fix for right capabilities detection of DVD-RW and also DVD+RW DL.
According to the retail box, and website (http://www.plextor.be/products/px-740a.asp?choice=PX-740A) the features of the drive is: DVD+R, DVD-R, DL DVD+R, DL DVD-R, CD-R, DVD+RW, DVD-RW, CD-RW
None of the commands shows the complete feature set (as layed out by plextor), and lshal actually says it does not do dvdrw ?
To me this really looks like a old hal version that doesn't detect this right. Have fun, Frank
