Ah, now, does the list that comes up show all the stored monitors (& associated profiles) or is there a longer list? I noticed that my monitor had been picked up as a generic model. Hmmm, I thought, this is different. So, at this stage I opened up the list that is available when first installing. This is what I'm wondering about if this is indeed a full list. I cannot see why it wouldn't be but you never know :-)
My puzzlement is more a worry that it may cause problems for a newcomer as, I have already stated, I can find out the settings and input them manually because I know how/what to do.
No, no hardware changes at all in this particular set up.
I honestly think there has been some pruning on the monitors list....why, I don't know? -- Kevan Farmer
If there is a longer list somewhere, I haven't found it. I'm guessing the list does get pruned occasionally due to the age of some of the monitors. I wouldn't think that the new monitors would be removed though, although stranger things have happened. ;-)
I don't worry so much about the newbies, because it's very, very seldom that sax2 doesn't come up with some match to give them a reasonable display. It would have to be pretty old hardware and there are not too many newbies out there using older hardware. Of course, since there isn't a standard about how the hardware talks, I suppose it would be difficult for sax2 to get everything right from the start. It does a pretty good job overall with many different variations, but there are these rare occasions like you've experienced.
I believe that the SuSE guys will accept monitor settings to add to the database still, so anyone with exceptionally new or yet unlisted monitors should pass that info to them.
