I'm sure you don't need to delete the entire .kderc. I did it by accident, but a side effect was to cure the Firefox printing problem. Almost certainly there's some anomaly within .kderc that, if corrected, will solve the printing problem.

Unfortunately, no joy here :(. I deleted .kderc, (i.e. renamed it :) ), restarted X, and firefox still hangs. Can you think of some other change you made to your system, which may cause the problem to disappear?
